How it Works
You hold a 2
hour class where the students make 2 glass projects. You can teach these
classes in your home, at a local community center or rec center, at a
church or school. These types of places are always looking for good
ideas for programs!
PTA's and
Organizations can also host these classes for fundraising. Once the
kiln is paid off, the rest is PROFIT !
For the
easiest classes, choose pre-cut kits (such as the pendant and wine warden
projects above). For even more profit to pay off that kiln faster,
choose a more flexible package where you pre-cut the
glass.
|
The Numbers
For this example we will assume you
buy pre-cut kits and each student makes 1 pendant and 1 wine stopper.
Price for the Kits: $11.63 per
student
Shipping: less than $0.75 per student
Firing cost: $0.25 per student
TOTAL: $12.63 per student
Teach 20 people, charge $30 plus $20
materials fee and your profit is:
Profit =
($50-$12.63) * 20 = $747.50 !
You have just paid for your kiln with only 20 students.
Do it again and you
make $747.50 more! |

How it Works
You hold a 2
hour class where the students make 2 bisque projects. You can teach these
classes in your home, at a local community center or rec center, at a
church or school. These types of places are always looking for good
ideas for programs!
PTA's and
Organizations can also host these classes for fundraising. Once the
kiln is paid off, the rest is PROFIT !
Of course,
your classes could cover making the pieces from clay also, and people
would pay more for those classes. But that requires two separate
classes, one to them to make the pieces and another to glaze them.
It also requires you to do two firings. Bisque painting is
more portable and easier to manage for a beginner.
|
The Numbers
For this example we will assume you
buy 2 pieces of bisque for each student, totaling $8 each.
Price for the Bisque: $8 per
student
Price for the Glaze and Brushes: $3 per student
Shipping: less than $0.25 per student
Firing cost: $0.50 per student
TOTAL: $11.75 per student
Note: Paint-Your-Own places usually
charge a painting fee of around $10 per person per hour, plus mark up the
bisque significantly. If you choose more expensive items to paint,
raise the price you charge appropriately.
Host 50 people, charge $40 each (remember,
this includes two pieces they get to take home) and your profit is:
Profit = ($40-$12) *
50 = $1400 !
You have just paid for your kiln with 50 painters.
