Underglaze Decorating Pencils
|
|

Decorated with AMACO Underglaze Pencils
|
Amaco Underglaze decorating pencils are ideal for shading,
fine line
drawings or identification. To use, apply the pencils to
bisqueware and then lightly dust with a brush to remove excess
particles. Lightly sponge on the first coat of glaze to avoid
smearing. (This step is not necessary if glaze is applied by
spraying, dipping or pouring.) Black, blue, and green pencils can be fired to cone
10. Brown and Yellow to cone 5. (Minimum fire to
cone 06). To reduce smudging, mix 1 tablespoon gum solution to 1
pint of water in spray bottle. Spray on work before glazing. |

Underglaze Chalk-Crayons
|
|
Very versatile. Sketching on bisqueware results in a pebbled
appearance. All colors can be blended by rubbing with fingers or a
cotton swab. Watercolor effect can be obtained by brushing
sketches with water, or using a wet brush. Small pieces of crayon
can be dissolved in water for painting or spraying. The 2
1/4" x 7/16" crayons may be sharpened to create lines.
Cover with clear glaze and fire to maturing temperature of glaze.
Sponge on first coat of glaze to avoid smearing. Note, for best results use a zinc free glaze.
Zinc in a glaze will often upset stains and underglaze
colors. Black, brown, dark blue, dark green, white, gray and
medium blue are good to cone 10. Turquoise, yellow, dark brown,
blue green, light brown, medium green and yellow-green are good to cone
5. Rose and lilac are good to cone 05. |

| Potter's
Pens
A unique tip-activated valve that
"doses" underglaze ink onto your bisqueware. How opaque
and thick a line you achieve depends upon several factors.
Generally, a line thickness of 1 mm is achieved. In order to
attain a very opaque decoration, one needs to draw at a deliberate
rate. One can also govern the ink flow by gripping the pen body
more or less firmly. All colors except Rose may be fired up to
Cone 9. Rose should be fired to a maximum temperature of Cone 4.
Test when using in reductions. 2 oz refills also available.
From Minnesota Clay.

Graffito
Underglaze Transfer Paper
The principle behind Graffito is exactly the same
as carbon paper. Graffito sheets are embedded with a ceramic underglaze
that will transfer to ceramic when drawn upon using a pen or a
pencil. This means that everything from photographic newspaper
images to original drawings can be transferred to ceramic.
All
colors except Rose to Cone 8. Rose to Cone 04. Sheets
9" square. Trace your artwork through Graffito on to your
item. Peel back Graffito revealing transferred artwork.
Glaze and fire.
