Overglaze is usually applied as accent color on top of already fired pieces.  It is fired at very low temperatures (cone 016-018 for example).  More application tips

Overglazes

Overglazes are applied on top of already glazed and fired pieces, then fired again at a relatively low temperature.  They are typically used in small areas as accents.  They can be made from actual precious metals such as gold, or they can be colored (lusters.)

Duncan Lustre & Metallic Overglaze  Duncan Mother of Pearl, plus White Gold, Bright Gold, and Premium Gold Overglazes.  Also includes Overglaze essence for thinning overglazes.
Amaco Water Based, Lead Free Overglaze

WB-Series Versa Color is a lead free series of 16 colors in a convenient water base for application onto lead free glazes.  These easy-to-use, economical overglazes have a consistency suitable for silk screen printing, stencil, and free brush decorating methods, as well as china painting.  Colors may be thinned with water.  
Amacote Amacote is brushed on the backs of metal shapes before enameling the other side.
