    86305928-771-8022 kurt@littlepotter.com www.littlepotter.com

    • Kurt Unterschuetz and Caryn Unterschuetz are craft persons in the classical sense, and find themselves endlessly intrigued by the transformation of earth and its elements into art and function.
    • Working as professional potters and artisans since the early 1990s, the Unterschuetzes are recognized for their unique horsehair raku pottery. The technique originated with the Japanese, and involves heating handthrown pots to 1,000 degrees in a special kiln, then laying horsehair across the hot pottery to oxidize and produce beautiful designs. They also create a line of spongeware function, which remains a perennial favorite with collectors of Unterschuetz pottery.
    • Caryn is a multi-media artist, and is best known for her Chinese brushstroke work, which is available as prints, or as part of Kurt's line of porcelain bowls and pots.
    • All work is handthrown and handcrafted, and all production is done in their Prescott studio. Dates and times typically open (if varies please advise to call or e-mail first): Always open but call first to make sure we're here.

Studio, is where I work on my own art work, and I share it with select students. I present workshops for beginners/more advanced students for Raku firing techniques. Dates and times for workshops vary. I limit the students to 6 per class, assuring students a more one on one experience. A good idea for a class is to get together yourself, and 5 others then call for workshop dates/time.
The workshop will cover: class one: making a few pieces handbuilt. class two is glazing techniques Class three: Raku firing. Lunch will be provided, usually pizza. bring a lawn chair, wear cotton clothes. long pants, long sleeves, full toed shoes for safety. You will have fun experience the joy and amazement of Raku firing. Opening the pits is like opening presents, you will always get a pleasant surprise. (warning it is addictive.)

www.RisaClayArt.com I'm primarily a hand-builder, drawing a lot of my ideas from other mediums (painting, sculpture, print-making) as well as from other potters, especially in a Noguchi/Voulkos tradition. Primarily working at cone 6 porcelain, because it takes color so well. I do work in stoneware and fire gas, raku and wood when I have a chance. It's hard to have your own studio in NYC so I'm a studio gypsy, parking myself wherever there's room, often at a college. Almost always available if I get phone or e-mail notice. Also, can recommend International Student Hostels for NYC visitors on a low budget. It is both a pleasure and a marvelous learning experience to spend time with other potters.

Tucked away in the tiny farming community of Farmville NC, is the small studio of Double Diamond Pottery. We started our love affair with clay in 1996 and hope to continue to grow in the coming years. Come take a look at what we create "down on the farm". Our pottery is mostly functional stoneware pieces, hand thrown on an electric wheel, that is fired in an electric kiln. We only use glazes that are lead-free and barium-free, tested and certified food safe. All of our functional pieces are microwave/oven and dishwasher safe. If you would like to see more of our pottery please check out our web site at tripod.com. If you are ever in Eastern NC you are welcome to drop by the studio where the cups and the coffee are both made fresh daily.

Typically open Tuesday - Thursday 10 - 6; Friday and Saturday 10 - 5. I may leave for 1/2 hour in the afternoon to pick up lunch, but always leave a sign on the door stating return time.
