Laguna Edgar Plastic Kaolin
Edgar Plastic Kaolin, also known as EPK, Florida Kaolin, or China Clay, is a water-washed kaolin mined in Edgar, FL.
It is one of the more popular kaolins for using in glazes due to its suspending capability, and it is known to produce a a smooth, thixotropic slurry.
EPK is used as a main ingredient in porcelain, due to the fact that it is fairly plastic, and very white-firing.
It is. However, not plastic enough for throwing bodies, and should be augmented by a more plastic kaolin, or by a plasticizer, such as bentonite or hectorite.
EPK has a melting point of 1350°F (3150°C).
