Dolomite is a type of milled limestone that has both calcium and magnesium, and as such can be used in a glaze that calls for talk and whiting.

Using dolomite, you can use one powdered material rather than two.

Dolomite has refractory properties on its own, but when it is combines with oxides in glazes, it fuses properly.
